A young chicken we’ve had since April recently started laying eggs. She lays in a nesting box that’s never used by our older hens. Since laying started for her, I’ve noticed her comb has had scabs, which I can only assume is from the other girls we have. Today her white head feathers are all bloody and one of the older hens was trying to chase her. I have them separated right now but what do I do from here??

What do the nests looks like? In this case curtains could help give her a little more protection if they're attacking her while on the nest.

When you saw her being chased, where was it happening? Coop, run, free range area? Any photos of your run or free range area?

How many feeders do you have?

The nests all have dividers but no curtains or anything in the front. They chased her out of the coop the first time and then a little while later they were aggressively after her in the run area. The coop is 8x8. Our run is 50 feet long, half covered, 2 waterers and 1 feeder. I let them out to free range every evening.

I'd try the curtains on her preferred box, at least temporarily... she may or may not like it.

I'd put out at least 1 more feeder, away from the first and optimally behind a bit of cover, even if just in the earlier half of the day, to reduce any friction over food. For 10 birds I put out 4 small cat bowls of fermented feed scattered in the run in the morning, in addition to the larger main feeder.

Is the run a big empty rectangle or is there plenty of hiding spots available? https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/a-cluttered-run.1323792/
