Help

To keep him safe in his future coop he needs to be locked up at night, or else being in the open coop would be like a trap, since he would not have an escape in case a predator comes in to pick him off the roost.
Ok. That makes sense I didn’t think about it like that. I wish I could make him a perch not in a coop then. Just like what he is doing now on the porch but just not on our porch.

Your porch is more secure for him than perching in a tree, as most predators are rather afraid to approach human dwellings.

While perching in a tree he could be picked off by owls, raccoons, martins, opossums etc...

He has found his favourite spot on you’re porch now. If you want to change that habit you need to make it impossible for him to roost over there . It makes sense to lock him up where you want him to sleep. Otherwise he probably finds another inconvenient spot.
After about 4 - 6 weeks he will get accustomed to the coop. But until that day you need to pick him up every evening and bring him to the roost where you want him to sleep and poop.

Ok so I think I will build a perch coming off the porch and try to train him to roost there instead of the back of the rocking chair.
