I just picked up a bag of pecking order treat for my ladies tonight, they just turned 17 weeks on Monday, I was about to give them a scoop of it until I noticed LIVE BUGS moving around in it.. they look like mites? Not 100% I know mites can be harmful. Would you still feed this to them? Is it okay? I certainly don't want to cause any harm if they are mites.

Do you have a photo of the bugs?

It may be grain mites or weevils.

While the bugs probably won't hurt the chickens, they like bugs, I'd take the bag back to the store and get a refund or try another bag (open in the store to see if there's bugs).

If you keep the bag and decide to feed it anyway, be sure to store it away from your other feeds so the mites/weevils don't infest other products.

Bugs can deplete some of the nutrients found in the food.

I have a video of them moving around but I guess you can't post videos on here? Lol. The picture isn't the greatest But hopefully it's helpful Lol

It's some sort of grain/legume beetles. They infested my dried peas some time ago. Birds eat them.
I would probably feed the bag to the chickens anyway because they devour it, but if your bag usually lasts long, it's better to bring it back to the shop because the bugs will slowly eat all the seeds and turn them into bug poop which isn't good for chickens.

If you want to post a video, one way is to post it on YouTube, then share it back to here.

There is a "Media" button or it works to just paste the link too.
