My almost 2 year old female Peking duck has not ate in 2 days. I noticed on Friday that she had a clear fluid leaking out of her vent and when I would pick her up it would run out of her. I brought inside yesterday and put her in epsom salt bath. She started pooping bright yellow. Now she isn’t pooping much at all but when she does it is still yellow and now I can see RED SPECKS in it and they look like blood. I don’t know if she is egg bound or has a blockage but there are no vets in my area who see ducks and chickens. Please help.

It sounds like an egg burst inside her and is probably has an infection. There is also a chance there is stuff stuck inside her. I would continue to give her baths a few times a day to help her pass the stuff likely stuck in her. She also will need some calcium and likely antibiotic. I lean towards using calcium citrate plus vitamin D, which you can get at the grocery store or pharmacy. I usually get a 600mg tablet and give one a couple times a day.

For an antibiotic, I would use baytril as it will be the most effective for this. This is where I get it from.

You can also get some lube, like KY jelly and put it up her vent to help lubricate it. Its going to be hard to tell if she has anything left inside.

If she is still pooping at all, I would tube feed her some fluids to help keep her hydrated. Hydration is also important for her passing any thing left inside.

Here are some links on tube feeding (again, I would only possibly do fluids at this point):

You can syringes usually at TSC. And can use other soft flexible tubing as a replacement. Usually it is recommended using aquarium tubing and then melting the end, so no sharp edges go down their throats.

@Quatie has given excellent advice. the question i have is , is she drinking water on her own? if so, add some vitamins for poultry to her water , like nutridrench.
I know you said she’s not eating, but I wonder if she’s not drinking then she would need to be tube fed the vitamin water.

Hey just wanted to give an update. She is doing much better. I wasn’t able to get my hands on the baytril the shipping had it getting here on the 29th. So I ended up giving her a low dose of Clindamycin in her little bowl of water and she drank from it over several hours. It seemed to do the trick. Monday she passed something that looked like a white pebble about the size of a quarter but it was mushy not hard. But today she seems to have some appetite back. She doesn’t want her duck food but she went crazy over a french fry so she got a couple of those. No nutrition in them but a treat to her. She is very vocal again which she was not at all when she was sick so I take that as a good sign as well. Thank you all so much for the suggestions I thought you all would like to hear the good news. Hopefully she only continues to get better!

That is good news. Sounds like she passed a bit of soft shelled egg. Pekins tend to have more issues with soft shelled eggs.

You can try some crumble instead of normal feed. A lot of my ducks prefer it when they are sick. I think partly because it is easier to digest. If she still refuses to eat despite that, you may need to tube feed her some food just to get to the point of eating on her own.

Don't stop the milk thistle. It's plant based and make sure it's the chopped seed, not the whole plant. Never mind a duck, I'm on it since my bout with cancer and can't live without it. Been taking it for years and puritans pride sent me the wrong thing and it took me 40 days to fiqure out I needed the seed, silymarin not the whole plant. It took months before I was back in balance. It can't hurt her.
