Our newly hatched chick had its bottom stuck to the shell. We didn't realize it and it got pulled off. Now its bottom is bleeding!

What is wrong?

Is that like an umbilical cord thing?

This is the first time we have done this. Sigh. We are still learning.

Is our little chick going to be ok?

Do you have any stop quick or anything to stop bleeding. Cornstarch will work in a pinch. Make sure the others do not peck at the little one. You might separate it from the others and it should be fine. It could be a bit of the yolk sac that is not fully absorbed yet.

No, I don't actually see an umbilical cord

. I was just wondering if it was the yolk sac connection, sort of like an umbilical connection.

The bleeding is minimal. I think it will be ok. It is only the second chick to hatch, so there isn't much concern regarding the other chicks pecking at it so far.

Thanks for the responses! I really appreciate it!
