HELP!

Sorry I missed this post, I hope you won.

I would have approahed this 2 ways, one the letter of the law.

Websters dictionary:
Domesticated animal - Species in which the evolutionary process has been influenced by humans to meet their needs
Tame - Make (animals) fit for cultivation, domestic life, and service to humans; "The horse was domesticated a long time ago"; "The wolf was tamed and evolved into the house dog".

Chickens , by definition are tamed and domesticated animals. The section of the law that gives one pause is "commonly inside a residence.". The thing to do with this one is laugh it off, to attack it is to create an argumentitive situation, and that even if you win by intellectual points, you wont win on an emotional level. I would however present pictures form this board and others like it that show chickens inside with their owners .

My close would be pictures like the ones you have above, your kids with the birds, and say to them , that you understand that the spirt of the law was to allow animals for pets only, do you really want to tell my children that you see in these pictures that these are not their pets.

If you have a bird that would allow one of your kids to hold it for a prolonged period of time, it would hurt to have them both sitting in the audience.

Dont argue, sell.

i havent been to court yet. its on monday.

but that helps a lot.
i dont have kids, but i can bring one of the chickens for sure.
my barred rock loves being held.
and the part about living inside a residence..
the law says that to be a pet, it has to be EITHER OR..
either living inside, OR considered tame and domesticated.
i was excited when i read the OR on the formal complaint.
because proving both would be harder than proving one alone.

my girls dont live inside, but there are pictures of people on here that do have them living inside. i could show those.

just like some people have dogs that live inside, as opposed to some people that have dogs that live outside. outside dogs arent considered less of a pet because they live in a dog house

One good definition of domesticated is the animal does NOT exist in the wild. While the progenitors of chickens exist in the wild, there are no wild chickens, or cows, or dogs, or cats, or zebra finches, or....
A chicken is completely domesticated and human dependent, it can't be turned loose to live on its own.
Tame: your chickens let you hold them, my cat won't let me hold her...seems like the chicken is in the clear but the cat may have to go. Your chickens eat from your hands.

My favorite argument is along these lines: My chicken will never poop in a neighbor's yard, bite a child, rip open a trash bag, use a neighbor's flower bed for a litter box or bark all night. My neighbors cats and dogs have done all of those things and more, and no-one says they are not pets.

Good luck
