I just caught my rooster mating with one of my pullets! She didn't start laying yet! Since he had chosen her, does that mean she is close to laying? If she does begin to lay, should I watch for fertile eggs?

NOBODY? PLEASE HELP

Any suggestions?

Honestly, I'm not sure what the problem is. Roosters and hens (pullets) mate. Yes, that will probably result in fertile eggs. That's what happens when roosters and hens are together.

I'm not sure what you mean by squatting...

If I touch their backs they squat down then hurry up and away.

I'm asking if because he is mating with her will she lay soon? If she does lay should I look for fertile eggs if she does begin to lay within a week?

This.

If you have a rooster, you're going to have fertile eggs. Roosters mate with young pullets who aren't quite ready to lay, but they should be pretty close to get his attention. Chill, it's alllll okay!

A randy rooster will mate with a hen weather she's laying or not. A true guide to wether your pullet is ready to lay is how well developed her comb and wattles are.
