help!

Sad news...he was doing well but took a turn for the worst today. He is still breathing but is laying flat out on his belly and weak. I am really sad. I thought he was going to make. I worked so diligently.

He is back on his feet!!!! Earlier I suspected he might be dehydrated so while he was lying, looking like he was dying, I used the eye dropper and gave him water and he actually swallowed. About an hour later I checked on him and he was on his feet! So I gave him more sugar water. I am not convinced he is drinking or eating on his own yet even though he has been hatched for 6 days. so I guess I should supplement until I can tell if he is self feeding?

Wow, this chick has more lives than a cat! If he's let himself get that dehydrated then Im guessing hes not self feeding or anything. Show him where the water is by carefully dipping the end of his beak into it for a split second. He should get the point. If not, then I guess you will have to keep supplementing him - which must be a pain in the arse after six days! lol! Try some mashed up mealworm maybe or some egg yolk so he can see that food tastes good! :)

Ah man! I came in this morning and he was dead. I should have slept at school :(
Then my second chick died quickly late this morning. The family I got my eggs from wondered if why these eggs/chicks had so many issues was because of cross breeding. They had given me 24 eggs and only 2 hatched and you know the rest of the story.

Again thank you so much for your awesome support. Next year I will get my eggs somewhere else to see if I have better luck.

Oh ... :( well if it's to do with breeding then there's not a lot else you could've done. Don't feel too down about it, you really did try 110% to save them. I wish more people were like you, lots of people just cull them if they appear sickly. You gave them a chance. Yes I agree, find someone else to get eggs from, someone with a nice flock that the chickens aren't related. If I lived closer to you, I'd give you some of our eggs. Although my cockerel isn't old enough just yet! lol!

Your response made me cry...I became so attached while nursing these helpless little chicks. Thank you for your reassurance that I did well.
