Well this may be a stupid question, I don't know, but how do you know if an egg is fertile or not? Because I would love to start incubating eggs but I wouldnt want to be putting unfertile eggs in an incubator. My rooster and hens are very close to maturity less than a month

Well, it is my understanding that you just take your chances with the eggs after you see the Rooster doing his business with the ladies. After you have incubated for about 8 days you can candle the eggs and see if there is development but as far as I know, there is no way to tell when they are fresh laid. Others with more experience may know something I don't.
