Have a 1 week old Easter egger that this morning appears to be gasping for air. I hear a little click. This has been going on for a couple hours at least (found her like this this morning. The other chicks are fine. Is this the end for her, or is there something I can do?

you can try to treat her for a respiratory illness. you can use tylan50 dose for chicks is .10 that's one tenth of a cc. it can be given orally or in the back of the neck. you would give the one tenth of a cc once a day for 5 days. you can get tylan50 at the feed store along with the syringe. I do hope this helps. time is of essence so hurry. good luck .

I'm a veterinary technician at a small animal practice. Is there something here that would work? Bayril maybe?

Probably should have mentioned that, sorry. Also, I have the chick here with me. Unfortunately, my dr doesn't work with birds/chickens.

24 hour update, if anyone is interested. Once I got home from work (I took her with me) I put her in a box in the brooder so she would stay warm. She got her dose of baytril and some water via syringe and I left her for the night. This morning, she had gotten out of the box and was sleeping with the other chicks. She is still breathing hard, but not as open mouthed. Baytril this morning, and I ground some of the crumbles in a coffee grinder so I could syringe feed her directly into her crop. When I was done and set her back in the brooder she was walking around with the other chicks, following them. Still very week, and difficulty getting comfortable--I assume because when she lays it's more difficult to breathe. So, we are being cautiously optimistic that little Clara will pull through. :) Any other suggestions are welcome.
