I'm hatching today I have 2 ameraucanas that just hatched and their bellies look odd. Almost like they are still open a bit. This is only my second hatch and I have never seen this. They have only been out of the egg maybe 5 minutes. Can anyone help??? Thanks

Also they are acting very "normal" and seem lively. I've read a bit that it may be a malabsorbed yolk. Could this be the case? Some say to wrap them in a wet paper towel or to put neosporin on it or leave it. I don't know what to do!

How are they doing now? It sounds like their navels haven't sealed yet, I had this happen to me quite recently. Thankfully my chick recovered quickly and was out and about within a few hours. Put the chicks on a clean surface and if you have some neosporin, or something similar (without painkiller) you can dab a little on their navels to help prevent possible infection.

Both of the navels look like they are drying up I was able to put them in the brood box this am but now I'm noticing one of the ones with a bad belly button also has a bad leg it's drawn up. Ugh. This is a horrid hatch im wondering if my eggs were old from all the problems I'm having. And I already have a mouth breather. :/

I just read some articles on the split I'm gonna give 'er a go. Man this is stressful stuff

When it's good, it's great, but when things go wrong... Good luck, hey?

Ye and when it rains it pours lol. I moved the heat lamp out a bit and I noticed the immediately moved closer to it so maybe it was just a bit warm. My little guy with the bad leg seems in good spirits and a spunky little thing just a bit (ok a lot) clumsy

What is this?! I thought his ties were curled but when I went to splint I saw this????

Uh oh, that looks like an injury. There's a member here who is quite good with fixing and treating foot and leg issues. I'll ask her to have a look and advice.
