I have a Silkie who had mites. I got rid of the mites but she has become really skinny and almost paralyzed. She will not eat or drink by herself so I have been force feeding her yogurt and giving her water with electrolytes. What can I do to get her better again?
Thanks in advance
Jack

How did you get rid of the mites? How long has she been in her current state? When you say "almost paralyzed" what, exactly, do you mean - is she able to move all her moving parts but reluctant to do so or actually physically incapable of moving certain body parts (if so, which parts).....or are you seeing more of a balance/neurological issue than a paralysis issue?

I used a herbal remedy of garlic, clove and water. She has been in that state for about three days. She can stand up for a second or two and then rolls over onto her back and then can not move. She can move into any comfortable position without rolling over and is then stuck that way until we find her and flip her back.

Did you have her ingest the herbal remedy or was it used topically? What was the concentration of garlic and clove? How long was the time between the treatment for mites and her deterioration? You mention the two as though there might be a correlation, but I don't want to assume that they are more closely related than they actually were.

The remedy was given topically and I made sure I did not get it in her eyes and mouth. It was a whole clove of garlic, two ounces of clove essential oil and ten ounces of water. She was going downhill before I gave her the remedy as I realized that she has symptoms of having mites. I gave it to the rest of the flock as well and they are all fine, so I do not think it was the remedy. I had a koshen who had the mites before the silkie but died and I want to know if there are any foods I can give her that could make her stronger.
