Help!

You should contact Metzer Farms. I'm sure they could help with all your questions. Murray McMurray always helps me out when I order chicks from them. They have all kinds of birds and are very helpful!

I'm surprised a hatchery would ship in the hot weather most of the country is having.
Oof, no kidding. Seems every year we keep breaking the previous year's historical record. Makes me nervous for years to come...

Yes Amykins I agree and I don't work in the animal industry or anything but I know that a lot of people do that. Good luck with your eggs. And I will call them, thank you shober. Miss Lydia we aren't getting a heat wave here in WI but I don't know about elsewhere but it's pretty average here.

Is...is his name seriously Murray McMurray? That's amazing. <3

Gro Gel is a substance they put in with ducklings at a small extra charge. It keeps them hydrated and feeds them with vitamins. I, too, would be concerned about shipping this time of year. I'm sure Metzer's can help you out with your concerns.

Congrats on the ducks,
I've ordered all my Welsh and Cayuga ducks from Metzer Farms without a hitch. Being that they are in CA and I'm in FL, I include the Gro-Gel in the package. I would hold off on the yeast or sugar water unless the ducklings seem sickly. When the ducklings arrive, dip their beaks in water and their instincts will kick in. I used Purina Layena Crumbles then Pellets because I had no clue other than non medicated and high protein. I have discovered Purina Flock Raiser Crumbles that is formulated for young poultry (including ducks) with a 20% protein content. I have yet to try is as my flock is grown and they don't make it in pellets.

That is a frisbee for the food, a kiddie pool with hay for the brooder, and a one quart waterer. I had a heat lamp for about 3 days, after that the ducklings did not need it, so I took it out (I'm in Florida, so it never got that cold anyway). The kiddie pool is now their pool until I build a small pond.

In the meantime, relax and enjoy the ride. They will be fine!
Rich
