I was just was given a Perkin duckling by somebody who bought it but really didn't want it and I've only raised chickens so any advice would be appreciated.

Congrats on your new addition! My first advice would be to find a friend for him if you can. Ducks are social and need one of their own kind to be with. Ducklings require about the same care as chicks, and can eat the same food. They are very messy with their water though, so you should be prepared for that. They have the same heat requirements as chicks. However, they grow much faster than chicks, so be prepared to get him into a big brooder to give him room. You can let him swim if you'd like, but make sure to use water that is at least room temperature, and get him dried off soon afterwards so he doesn't chill.
