It took me quite some time to capture my four call ducks so I could transport them to the meeting place with the BYCer who is taking them. They suddenly KNEW there was something up. The last little girl was captured through the assistance of my Cayuga drake, whom she was following when she couldn't find her siblings. He lead her down a path between two fences... and I managed to snag her. I have a LOT of tree cover, with very low, HUGE horizontal branches so they've always been safe. I have whacked my head on the big branches, had my face stabbed with smaller branch ends, got mud all over my hands and knees from crawling around under the lowest branches, got leaves in my hair, and was horribly out of breath by the time all four ducks were safely in their box with pine shavings.
All the while, I was angry about having to give them up.
But they're going to FIVE ACRES, will be cared for by a wonderful 13 year old young man who paid me himself for his ducks, and shook my hand upon our departure from the exchange location. His parents promised they'd send me pictures of them in their new home.
I am to keep them appraised of the status of the additional call duck eggs I have in incubators...
My landlady is a great lady, really, truly, and I do love her - she's almost like an older sister - but I am still angry that she won't let me keep any more ducks other than the Cayuga pair. Childishly angry.
Anyway, just wanted to share....
