at the va, all my appointments (3) got cancelled yesterday.
so I went to the eye clinic here in town and had my glasses adjusted. it seems to have helped.
I have been having double vision since I got these glasses last wee,

I picked up the lathe today.
the tail stock micro feed screw threads and mashed. IDK what people do to machinery.
I think I can tap new threads, they look like 7 or 8 mm to me.
if I can't borrow one from someone, I will buy one.
might end up drilling the hole larger and tapping 3/8" , then I will have to make a new turning handle ..
the nephew I got the lathe from is a shop teacher at the high school. maybe I can have him use this as a project for the kids.
he is always trying to come up with ideas.

still about 8 inches of snow back by the burn pile.. so today I put a match to the pile..
it will smolder for a few days..then on Friday it is supposed to snow, and that will take care of putting it out..
I keep saying that this is the last burn pile, but somehow branches keep finding their way back to there..
tonight we sold both Chevy Blazers. we don't drive them any more.. I have a pu truck and Annie has her Buick, and GS drives our back up Buick.

I hate it when appts get cancelled, then you have to wait all over again.
I had my biopsy today. Glad that is over. I should hear in 48 hours the pathology report.
In other news, the quail eggs are hatching, 10 babies last time i looked. The cats think they are fabulous!
I nearly had a wreck on the way home! I had just passed a car and was starting back into the travel lane, and there in the middle of the passing lane was a deer! It was dead, but i hate to think what might have happened if i hit it!

I do not like cancelled appt either,
what makes this one bad, is they cannot reschedule until after May. so I have to go
to a civilian dr. for my hearing test.
the VA will pick up the tab because it is their fault. I am waiting to hear from the civie dr.

My supervisor borrowed our bosses Lincoln to go on a short trip. on his way home he saw flashing lights so he pulled into the passing . that is where the dead deer was.
he ran over it and punctured two tires.
that was 30 years ago and I think he is still embarassed.. LOL

good morning, and good news.
i took the sleeve out to the vise in the garage and poked the live center out. it came easier than I thought it would. so naturally it didn't fall into the basket I had under the vise to catch it.

bounded out of the basket and ended up way under the work bench..

I got the threads cleaned out in the housing and now I can screw the screw all the way in and push out the live center with it..

now I have to find a mandrel and take one of my old worn out drill chucks off and see if I can make that work on the tail stock..

the spur is stuck in the head stock. that will be another project. I think I can use a dowel to poke it out .
one thing at a time..eh ?

Up to 18 babies now, one has a bad beak so probably will need culled. But i am very pleased with this hatch!

cappy, I wish I knew about that stuff, too.
I am learning as I go. lots of u tube watching.
and google searching.

why would a coop for 25 chickens be impossible?
just build it bigger than you think you need.

one of my coops is 12ft x 16ft. two 16ft long roosts. 10 laying nests. it handled 40 hens.
You don't need than many nests. 3 or 4 will do.

I even have brooders built in above the nests.

make your feed storage near as you can to the feeders.. you will soon get weary of feeding if you have to lug feed from very far away..

I have plans for a 5 gallon feeder that I made.
they don't waste hardly any feed with it.
I cost me nothing for a 5 gallon pail, and only about $4.oo for the pan .
I also used this feeder for my puppies.

5 gallons is about 30 pounds of feed.

I suspended the roosts and nests from the wall. no legs sticking down to the floor anywhere.. makes cleaning a lot easier.

also makes catching chickens easier when it is necessary to do so..

make the people door wide enough to fit a wheelbarrow through.
I made the windows and roosts removable .
the window sills are about 2 feet above the floor, I can park my tractor bucket outside the windows and shovel the litter right into it ..

have electricity to it. at least for lights.
I can run 4 heat lamps if I need to.
