easy retrofit.
leave the door as it is hung.
add the new hinges , one on top, one on bottom.
then just cut the door in half.
everything will line up perfectly..
when you make the cut, angle the blade in the skill saw about 5 degrees. this will allow the top section to open before the bottom section can, but you won't have a problem with having two flat surfaces rubbing on each other..

Probably, maybe more than that......what does inside of door look like?Thanks, I had been thinking about adding new hinges, and maybe a new crosspiece on the inside just above where the cut will be. I'll mention the blade angle thing to DH who would be doing it.
