Helpful hints for building coops

Cappy, how many more coops will you need ?

Today it is 43F. I took Ollie and pushed some snow banks back in preparation for our spring snowfalls. Can actually see bare ground in places. and standing water..

You never know around here. I need to build the goat shed/ feed storage shed soon.

Today I was doing chores most of the day. I did get the latest batch of boards painted. These are boards I bought earlier in the year to build the goat shelter, and were under a tarp. But they got damp under there and had all sorts of mold and fungus growing on them . So I scraped them all down and sprayed them with a bleach solution.
I was trying to stir up the paint in a new can and the rim was filling up. So I took a nail and made four holes in the rim, and the paint drained back into the can. Works great.

That does work great....my dad taught me that one years ago.
I use a very small standard screwdriver instead of a nail, have one that's almost knife sharp.

won't air get into those holes and dry the paint?
we just had our third 40F day in a row.
Sunny and bright. I went without a jacket.
Finished up at the dentist. final cleaning. gums are sore .. still have to go to a surgeon to have a tooth pulled in March. He will also remove a wart like growth in my mouth.

They're below the seal of the lid.
Never had one dry up on me.

Ooooh,,
I thought the seal was on the inner rim.
I heard of that trick a long time ago.
I used it, but always in a different can. Not the original can..
Learn something new every day, eh?

I think it's more of a wedge seal on both inner and outer part of the groove where you put the holes.

I doubled up on any type of security i used, ex. If it was fence i did inner and outer fence of two difrent sizes, if i did a door to a coup i flap door that could me partialy open or fully closed , my latches are all doubled up. But all that said i made my housing very easy to get in and out of.

my pop door is just inside the fence. I rigged up a pulley and rope and put extra weight on the door. so I can open the door from outside the fence without having to walk all the way around the coop inside the run..
for the "people" door into the coop, I found a steel door with a window in it..(free)
( the window stays dirty most of the time)
