take your router with a 3/8" or 1/2" bit, set it shallow, and cut some slots across the boards every 4" or so. If you haven't got a router, you can cut shallow slots with a circular saw, or better still, a set of stacked blades in the table saw. But the router is definitely the best tool for that job.

nice work with that recycled wood.
I am spoiled, I had a few trees sawed into lumber so I have new wood to work with. but my pine pile is down to about 3 boards left..
I have another large dead pine in the yard. but I don't want to cut it down until I can find somebody to mill it for me.
today I am not building. I am putting on my gardening hat and going to try to get 10 Roma tomatoes into self watering pots by noon..
I put the tractor battery on the new charger.
DD came out and helped me figure out the settings. her eyes are better than mine.
Battery is up to 95% charge this morning. It will be interesting to see if it holds a charge once I start using it.
Cappy, careful with that bright paint. You might end up getting sun glasses for the birds..

Actually my Shepherd has an eye issue and could use sun glasses anyway!
Here is the duplex coop, and if you turn to the right 90° then you see the site where the new goat house will be built.

The goats should love this spot, nice and shady!

So now i have an issue with my coop the board that I have for them to go in my ducks are having trouble getting up the ramp its too slick what can I put on it to help them
Paint it , and while still wet sprinkle sand on it. That should give them a grip.

Yes, generally i use outdoor screws like you would for a deck and galvanized spiral nails when i want to use nails. Also when you drive in screws with a drill, use little bursts of speed rather than top speed all the way. It seems to produce less chattering and stipping of screws. Less frustrating , as well.
I could not be fully understanding but perhaps you aren't pressing hard enough? I found when I finally committed to pressing hard the chattering and stripping went away!!!

under the cleats I would use original gorilla glue.
It expands when it sets and there will be no cracks for toes to get caught in. Once it is set, the chickens will have a tough time pulling it out
If they even try..
I got all ten Romas potted and watered in by noon.. however it is noon on the second day. the heat drove me out yesterday..
I have pictures if anybody is interested in self watering containers.
separated air sacs are normal with shipped eggs. store them pointed end down for a day.
sometimes I jostle them gently to get the air bubbles moving.
otherwise do like the other folks suggested.
put them in the incubator pointy side down.
Usually the air sac won't be a problem.

even with a lot of pressure, short bursts of the drill will reseat the bit in the screw head .
and you will not need as much pressure.
that makes a big difference if you are doing a lot of screws. or if you are in a position where you cannot exert a lot of pressure..

I built a lot of decks and drove thousands of screws.
let me tell you. when you have the drill going full tilt and the screw bottoms out, that drill in your hand is going to torque hard. after 50 to 100 screws, your wrist is going to be sore.. try it..

here are the 10 Roma tomatoes in their wicking watering containers.
I took pictures of the components I used to put these together if anybody is enterested.
there is a bucket inside of a bucket.
that piece of 1'' thin wall pvc is where I put the water to fill the reservoir at the bottom.
I have never tried this before. I hope they work.
