The next layer of chick escape guard -- excess not cut off yet because DH may have a better idea.

The little darlings are perfectly content at the moment with no heat lamp at 90F on a 90F day.

good for you , Cappy, It seems like more people are getting back to the land. Probably mostly from boredom ?
I finished the first of the two saw horses. today I will try to assemble the second one.
I got pulled away from the project yesterday because I had to water all the potted plants.

the ten self watering pots are doing well. I soaked them real good when I planted them and then filled the reservoirs. this morning the soil is moist to the top.
I will have to stake up some more of the tomatoes.
there are lots of blossoms and tomatoes appearing..
the lone squash plant is doing great. leaves like elephant ears.
I had a surprise yesterday. there was a stick in the pot with the grape cutting that sprouted leaves. the ''dead'' stick has leaves on it now.. I have to separate them and put them into larger pots..

I thought of you today Jim as DP hand-lined the perch out of the pond, she did a darned fine job of it too. The pond now has a bunch of plants in it and we've put some tiny gold fish in it to eat whatever they can find.

Not sure if I mentioned it here but we ended up with 3 roosters. Carl is a jerk and Louie and Eddie are pretty cool so far. Carl is going to freezer camp for sure, but depending on how loud (and/or annoying) Louie or Eddie get, one might get to stay. Neighbor who was so against us having chickens came over to see them and admitted that even standing right in front of the coop & run, that there is no smell at all. She has also evidently considered the advantage of having ten laying hens living next door. She now gives us empty 18 count egg cartons all the time so we are good there now. Also we've had so much produce from the garden this year we've had plenty to give away to anyone who walks by too slowly to escape :) and she loves veg.

Looking good!

If the chicks are not yet large enough for the size of the openings to deter them.

On advice from one of the members here, we will add smaller-mesh plastic netting to the inside to keep them from attempting to squeeze through and getting caught.

That's truly beautiful.

Today we put the roof on, hubby did most of the work so I was painting.

Looking great!
