There is no cotter pin. I didn't even see a hole but i will look. Maybe i could put a paper clip or bobby pin in to temporarily fix it. Not feeling good, tired and cranky.

It should something look like this...it might have been missing from the box.
Take the crank arm to the hardware store, they should find something that works.

I have read so much good things about them
from people who have them..
I am with Art, it must just be a missing cotter pin.. If you want to drop by, I have a whole box of them. I will give you what you need ..

If there is no hole for the cotter key, maybe there is a slot for a snap ring ??

If you have a tiny drill bit, you could bore a hole.. I have those drill bits, too. same deal

pictures are a bit blurry.
one picture is the 3 parts before putting them together.
mt1 morse taper with live center
the quill with a mt1 internal taper and threads on other end
the thread handle. when it is fully screwed in, it pushes the
morse taper out for easy removal..
the morse taper is a friction fit. used on lathes, and some drill presses...
I will take a picture of the quill assembly in the tail stock.

the top picture shows the quill assembly in the tail stock.
I had to come up with the two small set screws . the one on the right fits into the groove on the adjusting knob.
the one on the left fits into the groove in the quill to keep it from spinning.

I mounted a small piece of wood into the lathe.
It runs very smooth with no vibration.

now I have to search for some chisels..

Good Monday morning,
did some shopping on the web and in town.
not much to choose from as far as lathe chisels go..
I didn't like the reports that I read about the new ones in my price range.
especially the parts about them not holding their sharpness..
some of the people mentioned that they didn't especially like the handles..
HEY !! you are standing right in front of a lathe.. make some you like !!!
anyway, I went looking for used Sears/Craftsman tools.. I know the vintage ones are good quality..
I found a set. they should be here on Tuesday.. they cost $71.oo, about what the new ones cost..
I also have two bearings on their way by UPS.. those will be inserted into the new idler roller I will make with my "new/old" Sears chisels..
I will be building a nice stand for the lathe. I figure a glued up butcher block type of table top.. No, I will not turn the legs for it..

I am thinking of settint it up in the new lean to. I think I will mount the stand to the wall with no legs setting on the floor.
makes it easier to sweep up the shavings

I just got notified that my MT1 Morse tapers will be here this week, also..
I am going to be swamped with projects..
by tearing that chuck off of the old drill and buying a MT1
I spent about $5.oo instead of $65.oo.. DIY pays off..
