Helpful hints for building coops

Nope, the coop was closed all day. Apparently it got in through the welded wire! I hate the thought of putting more wire on the whole thing, but i may have to. I also thought about hot wiring it.

Hard to decide if mesh or hot wire would be... easier/cheaper/more effective.

If you want to take the time and have the patience, hang the woven wire on insulators and hot wire it.. that would make it more effective from both sides of the fence..
i read once where someone ran two wires along the top of the fence. one hot, one grounded. most chickens fly up and land on the fence before continuing their escape. with the two wires, they would get zapped.
however, I question if a chicken would put two and two together and figure it out and quit flying out..
I had 100 chickens in a 4ft high cyclone fence. they would roost on the fence at night. in the morning, they would fly down in the direction that they were facing when they woke up.. I had the fence there to deter predators, so it didn't matter to me which way the chickens went..

The welded wire is on the hoop coop to cover the cattle panels. I guess in need some chicken wire to keep possums out. Or i could use hardware cloth, but it is pricey. Luckily possums only seem to go for the eggs.

well, I guess this is it.. it doesn't know if it should rain or snow, so switching back and forth
the ground is white and slushy ..
I have the charger on the scooter battery right now.
yesterday I found an excellent tutorial on you tube about the fuel system and vacuum system. now I feel confident enough to hook things up and eliminate some of the vacuum lines that can be bypassed..
apparently somebody tried to beat me to this.
there are vacant lines all over the place around the motor..

Today hubby decided to start building the hay loft. I played the helper and gopher, and the frame is up!

Now the wood needs to be cleaned and painted. Guess who gets to do that?

The wood already has mold on it. Not so healthy for the animals.

Less likely to. Some types of mold thrive on wood. I had a tarp over the wood but it got wet anyway. Looks nasty. I will wash it, let it dry, paint it and then the plywood can go on.
