I finished the AC frame today.
went to paint it and the paint is thick, by thick I mean it is like hard rubber. strange, I stored it in the basement. anyhoo, tomorrow i will go buy a quart from Menard's.
I think I sent a pic to you , Molpet and Cryss ..

Potato bin, will be a nest box.

Back of feeder, level of feed visible when in use.

Front of feeder, still needs board to keep feed in and top.

I made a feeder out of a 5 gal plastic pail and a shallow pan.
It is similar to the many that are shown on byc, . I tweaked it a little and the chickens can completely empty the pail with no spill over onto the floor..
total cost . free pail, $2.50 for the pan.
and a 1 1/2" x 8" x 8" piece of wood.
and 6 screws..
I think the pan is called a horse grain feeder
It looks like an oil drain pan.
I used it with finely ground corn and oats and for granuals. no hang up or bridging.

this is the side that will go toward the window. the notches in the bottom board will fit over the cedar batts on the siding.
I did not use any plywood. I edge glued all the oak boards to make the panel..
I did not want the panel to be attached to any part of the window, so it is wide enough to clear the casing..
I built it far enough out so that I can leave the AC in place year round . I can shut the window and I am ready for winter.. no more wrapping the AC with insulation and plastic..

this is the one I sent. It doesn't show
3-D very well.
It spans the cedar window trim. 44"
and it sticks out from the siding 3".
It is capped off top and bottom so no mosquitoes can get into the house.
the AC is mounted with most of it hanging on the outside.
on the inside, the front of the AC stops just short of hitting the sash when I close it for the winter.
I have the AC tilted down a little so the condensation drips to the ground.

I have four 6" screws through the side legs into the siding.
the whole thing is solid red oak. all edge glued with original Gorilla glue.
You can use plywood if you want.
I just happen to have a couple truck loads of oak, maple, bitternut (swamp hickory), and red pine..
I don't use the red pine because it does not hold up to exterior use very well.
