There is a song that goes:
the cat came back, the cat came back
we thought he was a gonner,
but the cat came back,
'cause he wouldn't stay away ..

43F all day. 39F when I came in at 7pm
the shelves are all finished..
surprisingly it was not uncomfortable out there.
what is beef tendon used for ?
never heard of Chinese sausage.
we have Polish sausage ..
....jiminwisc....

I think it was tenderloin , but tendon is used too https://omnivorescookbook.com/recipes/moms-best-beef-stew-with-tendon

He's back! :weeI feel foolish but relieved anyway.:wee
As long as he comes back safely, he can cheat on us with as many porches as he likes. :) Sheesh, another reason we shouldn't have outside cats, I worry too much.

So I made a run to Portland Friday and got back yesterday. Checking on the house, but this time I made a shopping trip to pick up a bunch of things I don't have access to down here. I now have a freezer full of stewing hens, Chinese sausage, uncured bacon, beef tendon, and really good ground beef. Gonna be a cooking week!
glad he is back :ya

After an excruciating morning on the phone with vets,
some who really tried to 'shame' me,
I found one to do an at-home euthanasia for old Rascal.
Have heard good things about this woman over the years.
I am so relieved we won't have to go thru another winter,
yet it's still gonna be a roller coaster of a couple weeks,
gonna try to make it the best two weeks for him.

I remember that song. They taught it to us in camp counselor class. The version I learned had some pretty dark lyrics that they wouldn't let us sing for the kids. :p

I use the beef tendon in my stock pots. My stock usually cooks about 24 hours or so and the tendon adds a huge amount of collagen for a really rich stock. A lot of people believe that collagen is very good for you especially for stomach and digestive issues. Then once it's completely cooked, I cut it up into smallish pieces and add it to the finished soup. It has very little flavor of it's own but I love the texture.

The Chinese sausage gets cut up into 1/2" pieces and added to the rice in the rice cooker. The flavor it adds is just about impossible for me to describe correctly. If you've ever had sticky-rice-balls in a dim sum place you might recognize it. It makes the rice irresistible in our house.:drool

There's a commercial that is basically a bucket list for a guy's old dog and it makes me leak tears every time I see it.

You are doing the right thing and kudos for persisting in finding a vet who will come and do the final act there at home.

So it is tendon, and not tenderloin.

I've seen that commercial..and read other 'best last day' stories...we'll be partaking some of that with lots of leaking on my part.

Thank you for understanding, some think I'm nuts...screw them.
