Helpful hints for building coops

well, I am taking a break.
I have the motor all apart. couldn't get at any bearings otherwise.
I have everything loose and turning. but I can't put it back together until Annie gets back from town with some 90 weight gear oil for the gear case on the cement mixer.
nice picture , cappy. large and clear.

The first side is up for the run. I need to add about 2 feet to the end so it will be equal in length to the kennel panels.

That looks so nice! I'm gonna have to win the lottery, buy and demolish the house next door and make more garden and COOPS! I suppose I'll have to enter the lottery then. Dang

I assembled a 30" x 36" rabbit cage last night and put it in the coop this morning. I covered 85% or so of the wire bottom with cardboard and the rest with deep shavings and moved the chicks out of DP's shower (thank heaven ). They were happily scratching and eating so I opened the pop-door so the 3 week olds can go back in anytime. It's a lovely day so the older kids weren't in a hurry to go back in. Have work to do (garden then fishing) so I couldn't stay and watch but the older kids can't reach them. Oh and Natasha managed to get her leg band off even though hers was the tightest. Clever girl...

then I repositioned the striker plate on the porch door.
and now it WORKS !!
tomorrow I have to figure out what I will use for a scaffold. ladders, truck bed or tractor bucket ???

Grats on the successful projects! I love it when that happens. Just be careful with the scaffold, Jim.

On the other hand, I realize I messed up the chick integration cage. It's now horribly hard to maintain so I'll take it all apart again tomorrow. Oh well.

I have re-done almost everything I've ever built at least once.

when it comes to working on a scaffold, I am extremely careful.
I like working from the tractor bucket the best.
very adjustable for height and plenty of walking room. plus a safety railing all around.
I have to reach only a maximum of 11 feet from the ground.
when I have to work off of a ladder, I set the bottom end in the tractor bucket. there is no slipping
backward that way.
I too have redone coops and cages. eventually you get to a model you like..

here are all 8 of the trusses lined up for easy access when I need them.

this one I have all marked up with the dimensions if I ever have to duplicate some in the future.

I also have close up pictures of the dimensions..

normally the angles would be 30* - 60* - 90*
but with the way I brought the rafter down it turns
out to be 29* - 61* - 90*

I wanted the thick front edge so I can put fascia on it ..
