Never, never, never buy an electric weedwhacker without a body strap. No matter how light it feels in the store.

My SIL gave me hers because she can't handle the vibration. That doesn't bother me, but holding the weight out with my hands instead of having it hang on a body strap was only OK for the first 2 minutes.

Is it a corded or battery operated?

While my corded is far more powerful than my battery one I love the battery one for tight spaces and yes even going into the big flower beds.

Corded.

I would not be able to carry the weight of a battery whacker. Nor can I carry the gas-powered one DH has at work and which he wants to duplicate here.

My ryobi 18V is lighter and better balanced than my corded one.
I did upgrade when I needed to replace my exceedingly old batteries to the longer run time ones.
For me it was a great addition to my arsenal of anti-weed tools.

I had a strap for my gas whacker....not needed for the battery one, is has excellent balance.

Knowing my SIL, she bought a very inexpensive one. It's not well-balanced but it is light enough that I can understand her being fooled into thinking it was fine just picking it up in the store because the strain only starts after a few minutes.

I ended up having to brace it on my hip and swing my body to take it off my arms and shoulders.

But I only had about 50' to do since only half the poultry net is over grass.

two years ago I bought a whacker that I don't have to mix the gas and oil. very powerful. in fact it is extremely hard on the strings. I try to run it at half throttle.
I didn't use it at all last year. I have some burdock patches that need taming. I will be going after those soon.

What brand is it and how heavy?

the string trimmer is a Cub Cadet 4 cycle.
My latest accomplishment is I got the grapes all weeded, tied up and fertilized.
they really took off a couple of days after the fish emulsion..
the resident deer is leaving the raised beds alone. I don't think she likes the smell of the fish emulsion that I pour around the plants.
