I've done it.

I've put my beautiful Ludwig up for sale so that I can focus on the Blue Australorps.

So now I really HAVE TO get my coop divided so I can be sure I'm hatching Australorp eggs (I am mystified by people's ability to tell which hen laid which egg other than when there are GLARING differences).

do you have a lot of chickens ?
do you have more than one nest ?
take note when you see certain hens in a nest. they almost always go to the same nest.
sometimes a certain hen will lay a certain shaped egg.
hatch all the eggs and sort out the chicks.
roosters are very difficult to sell.
don't get your hopes up for someone to give it a forever home.

I have 6 nests and I can't a lot of my girls apart without looking at their leg bands.

I am hoping to sell Ludwig because he's a less common breed and I can tell people that he's well-behaved and not aggressive.

You need to only tell the breeds apart
not each individual chicken.

I have 21 hens and they lay all their eggs in no more than 3 of the boxes :D

I can tell the Brahma's weird, round eggs and the SLW's wonky ones (wrinkled, extra calcium, etc.), and the California White's big white eggs.

Everything else is medium brown (sometimes maybe a little pinker), and similar in size.

I replied with "sad," as I'm sorry I won't get to hear about him anymore. I know you didn't name him for Beethoven, but that's what I always thought. I so hope he gets a good home. Wish it were going to be mine...

there ya go. you have most of them figured out already.
I had over forty laying hens, ten nests all at the same level and all identical. One day I found four hens packed into one nest. out of the ten nests, they used only four of them. that's chickens for ya.

If you're going to have basically 2 coops, couldn't you put Ludwig in with the other?

No, because that's first going to be for Ramses's son and then for my Silver-Laced Australorp(ish) project birds.

I'm going to be hatching a lot more in hopes of getting a good Splash boy.
