Helpful hints for building coops

Yall got a question...
I took an old buffet table and made it into a brooder for chicks inside my run.
i have to be able to get inside the brooder for cleaning, feeding, watering so i made the front of the brooder with doubled-up chicken wire.attached to a 1x6 that weights it down when chicks are inside brooder.
My problem is chicks from time to time.can escape the brooder but not get back in the brooder.
I got a week to re-fanagle it so that it is easier for the person tending them while I am gone but much more safe for the 4 week olds that need confining from older babies in the run.
The LAST pic shows where I moved the 1x6 to attach it to the chicken wire vs how it was originally attached just to the bottom. I also added 1x2 pieces to the sides there to help with the corners but still not a good fit.
Any suggestions or ideas yall might have to make it better?

do away with chicken wire.
either add some hardware cloth or replace the chicken wire altogether with hardware cloth.

I had HWC to begin with and took it off...too rigid for opening up on front and always left me bleeding.
It's the 2 sides there that need something I just am not sure what. I thought the 1x2s would help but...still a gap. But I must be able to get into the front side each day.

Hardware cloth in a frame? Maybe sandwiched between two lightweight strips of wood.

Or mesh like a row covers for gardens or some soft-sided, fold up laundry hampers. If you can find some dense enough they don't get toes stuck in it but that they can still see through.

Make a rigid frame to hold your wire and mount it on hinges.

to those of you who might know or even care, I have good news.
I have been trying to revive a lawn mower that has been sitting for over five years. I have been doing research and trying different things to get it to run. I bought a new carburetor and came to the conclusion that it was faulty. I order another new carburetor that came in the mail yesterday.
today I took off the "old" new carburetor and put the "new" new carburetor on.
choked the carb, turned the key and the engine started right up. It ran like a charm. I let it run while it burned the oil off of the muffler and smoked like crazy for awhile.
then I turned it off.
set the throttle to slow idle, without using the choke, I turned the key. It started right up and kept on idling.
of course I will have to fine tune the high speed idle.
Now I can go forward and fix the flat tire and go for a ride, I hope..

Cappy, what color are you going to paint it, red ??
when I was building, a woman wallpapered her bathroom, walls and ceiling. It actually looked OK.
day is starting out cloudy here . in the 50's. but going to get up to the 90"s later.
won't get much done today. company coming about noonish. then at six meeting DD for her birthday supper with some of her friends..

Going to paint it blue. Think i will like it. Calming.

They don't recommend pills in bathroom or kitchen, which is where everyone has them, because of the humidity.

Well right now they are in my living room. But if they're sealed in plastic jars, i figure they shouldn't get much humidity in them.

I would put a couple of doors on the front, then hardware cloth the rest. Plus put legs on it so not so much bending involved.
