on saturday, i bought a baby duck.
which, i know i should have bought two, but i wanted him to be more of a pet.


well, he was completely fine until today.
when i got home from school, i got him out with my chick,
& he was just kind of sitting there.
so i ran some water in the sink, & he still just sit there in the water.
& then he started rocking back & forth.
& now, he cant walk at all.


& i have no idea what could be causing this,
or if its contagious,
or what.

How old is the duck and what have you been feeding him and has he been eating and drinking?

Baby ducks also don't have the oil on them necessary for swimming in the water so you'll have to make sure that it drys out all the way.

im not really sure how old he is,
id guess two weeks.

& when we first got him, we fed him a hardboiled egg,
then again when the chick hatched, because we halved it between them.
but other than that he eats starter & grower.



& yeah, we dry him off after he gets done,
& one half of his cage sits on a heating pad.





butttt,
hes been doing better.
hes walking, & chirping & drinking.
the best we can figure, he had what would be like gas to us in his crop.
because it was swelled out,
& its going down now.

Some emdicated chick starters are toxic to ducks. I would check the feed as the first culprit.

You might also want to feed it some appropriate "treats" liked chopped up veggies, fruits, bread, shredded cheese, boiled egg to supplement the feed. I'm not sure what all baby ducks like but baby chicks love all of the above and its all good for them. I don't like to rely on the dry commercial feed supplying all of their needs and I begin feeding my baby chicks extra foods from day one. They love everything.
