Hematoma in a Weimaraner Anyone? Help?

pips&peeps :

My dog got one in November and the vet put him on prednisone and it was gone in a day, no surgery. If it's not too bad, maybe that would be an option for you.....

Our vet also uses steroids and ice for aural hematomas. It is extremely effective, and the ear looks better after it goes down naturally rather than having surgery. Sometimes, I think some vets do the procedures that bring in the most money rather than the ones that are best for the dog.

well we're back. No sugery needed... she is just taking prednisone and benadryl for the time being. I'm so happy. Has anyone been on these? Did it work?

It will cause excessive urination so watch your dog, make sure you take her out twice as much as usual if she is an indoor dog. It can also cause behavior changes like aggressiveness.

My dog went out to potty and I found him chasing my horse. This was after about the 3-4 day and he has never done that his whole life. So be very vareful with your baby! Take extra precautions to keep her safe.

Wow... aggressive behavior huh. Good to know. I'll watch her around my chickens. I usually don't worry about it at all, but just in case. And we'll keep her on leash while we take her running. Doctor told me she'd be drinking/peeing a lot more... so I put the magnetic screen door on and am leaving the back door open for her to freely go in and out. Thanks... did this work for your dog?

Great news... thanks for the tips and info. I'll keep you posted if I have any other issues and when it goes away.

I just can't say how excited I am that we didn't have to do surgery. I was very nervous about it.
