In the past they made paper out of it. Legend says that weed was declared illegal at the behest of the forest and wood mill owners.

Well in the back woods you can grow hemp - hemp not canabis! The plant itself is really undemanding and as @Jpat said, hemp contains no illegal substances. You can buy hemp-oil in some good stores, it is expensive but healthy.

I might grow some of that stuff too this year. I have a steep hill behind my house that i must keep covered to avoid any landslides and if that stuff grows like weed…
