I have 4 hens in a coop together with a run. 2 older red hens i got when my buffs were babies. Now the buff orpingtons are a year old. I put 2 in with the older red hens. I noticed one of the older hens was missing some wing feathers when I put the orpingtons in. One of the orpingtons had a bald patch on her back from where the rooster was getting her. Its been like 6 weeks since they all became room mates. But the feathers are not coming back in. Today I noticed the bald patches on both the hens are red. Kinda like they would be from a rooster getting on them. So I'm wondering if the other red hen is doing it. I have never seen her act weird around the others. TIA

So the rooster is gone?
Females will peck feathers out too.

Feathers won't grow back until a molt.
Yep, no rooster in that coop. But where the feathers are gone it is red like something has rubbed on them. Thats why I was wondering if my dominant hen could be jumping on them like a rooster would.

I've had a few red skinned birds(back and butt) seems to come and go(or not).
Never seemed to bother them and I never figured out what was causing it.

I think the red skin on bare backs this time of year is likely due to sunburn.
