Hen began laying after a year of not laying? Please help!

Well i have a hen... And she began laying 2 years ago but suddenly stopped laying and took a year long break then a few days ago i found her laying and egg! She was in our "seniors home" its a coop where we put our chickens that have stopped laying and we take them for walks and give them lots of stuff to do! So we put her in there and i seen her laying an egg! And shes been laying since does anyone know why this happened? Thanks

Chickens generally take a break between laying cycles, but a year is unusual in my experience.

I have a Cochin who does that. She's around four. She was the first to quit laying before molt, but the first who began laying, and very regularly, following molt. It's almost like she gets her "job" out of the way so she can enjoy months of uninterrupted leisure.

It was a six or seven month interval between laying periods.

I have a Wellsummer who occasionally stops laying to go broody, and takes the longest breaks of any of my hens when molting. last fall she stopped laying for winter, like all the others, and has not yet started back up. It's been four months at this point. I'll let you know if the dork butt ever starts up again...

Our BR laid regularly for three months as a pullet, then quit for 14 months!
Yep, a 14-month vacation!

Now, for the past three weeks, she's laid at least every other day. She lays long, narrow eggs, but they're fine inside.

So go ahead and enjoy it, because it's likely she still has many eggs to lay. Also, you might as well keep her housed where she is, since it's where she started laying again.
