Hen being pecked on--new chickens--ADVICE PLEASE

Thanks Liz and everyone.

For now, crisis averted. Daisy's in her own space for now so she can heal and I can relax. The barred girls are definitely no worse for wear, lol! So hopefully we can work things out. Going to try to get some Blue Kote a little later. Sounds like it would be good to have on hand anyway.

Much good advice on here that I hope to put to use. I NEVER thought you could get so emotionally involved with chickens!!

Thanks again everyone! I'm sure I'll be back on w/more questions. Maybe someday I'll know enough to help someone else.

Just one more thought, if you were going to get another bird from the place you got daisy, and you have only had her a short time, perhaps the thing to do would be to get that other bird NOW, Let the two of them bond in the Daisy place, and then when you have to put everyone back together, take the BR's out, put them in the daisy place, put daisy and her friend in the tractor, leave it this way for a couple days, then it will be the BR's that are the new girls on the block. Or maybe just do it now, dont let the BR's keep the mansion, let daisy have it while she heals, and put the bullies in the quarantine. This will break up thier territoriality a bit, and if you have the new girl with daisy, she will help 'handle' the BR's when they come home.

But talk to the seller, see if daisy was buddies with anyone else, this makes a difference, and definitely blu-kote daisies neck asap. It is cheap enuff, and very effective.

Good Luck,

I had the same problem I was told to try putting in at night and it did not work. I just wanted to put
one that grew up with the other 3. It is separated right now to heal. My next try is to take others
out and put her in for one day and put one per day after that. I haven't tryed this yet and do not
know if this will work. I am hopeing that by it will change the pecking order. Has anybody else tryed
this? I couldn't take it either. Please let us know what else to try. I am in the same boat. Or take one and
put in with her and put both back in together.
I wish you the best Gary!

You really need to get some blu-kote and keep it on hand for things like this,I bout a can and it has been a life saver for me and the chickens.I have had quite a few purple butts in my flock(sprayed with blu-kote for egg bound and feathers missing)If chickens see a speck of blood they will go after that chicken.I have a few things that I keep on hand like electolites with vit. and blue-kote.Maybe you could put the chickens that are in the crate beside the tractor so they can get used to seeing one another for a few days.Thats what I do for the new ones put them in view and sound of the others for a few days and that seems to work for me.Good luck
