One of my hens has been having trouble laying her eggs these past couple days. Two days ago she laid an egg that at first, was just the egg itself and a small, soft piece of the shell. She had trouble laying it. She later on pooped out other chunks of the shell.
She's currently sitting in one of the nesting spots trying to lay. She's been there for several hours now. What do I do to help her?

@Miss Lydia
Do you have Liquid calcium ?

No, I don't. Could I potentially substitute with something else or make my own?
I checked on the hen a few minutes ago and found that she was trying to poop out a soft egg shell. I pulled it out. I'm going to monitor her for a while.
Those tend to be harder to lay then Regular ones for some reason
Do you provide crushed egg shells or crushed oyster shells to help with calcium ?
As for the liquid calcium it’s great to have on hand in case of emergency situations
@Miss Lydia will have more info on where to purchase it and the type
One of my little ducks every now and then has a soft shell egg too
No idea why it happens

No. My hens never seemed to need it. I only ever occasionally got a soft-shelled egg.
If I were to crush up some egg shells, how small should the pieces be?

My birds do pretty good eating the cooked shells with me just crushing them in my hand other probably do it differently but this is how I give them. But for one having laying problems the liquid Calcium Gluconate is the best. It actually helps move the egg down so it can be laid. A member was having one of her ducks with being egg bound took her to the vet and Calcium Gluconate was prescribed. Takes overnight.

How is your hen doing?

They need oyster shell and it's always a good idea to have calcium gluconate on hand for egg laying problems. They will use the oyster shell as they need it. The liquid Calcium Gluconate is for when they need something stronger when having trouble lying.
Where would I get those two things? And I have one problem. I have a mixed-age flock. Some of them are only 13 weeks old. How do I prevent the younger ones from getting too much calcium?

She still seems depressed a lot of the time. She laid an egg two days ago. I'm not sure which one was hers, but I knew she laid because of the amount of eggs there was. There was one slightly strange-shaped egg, but it was still normal enough. I do wonder if that was her egg. She didn't lay yesterday though and she wasn't very active for most of the day. She didn't look like she was trying to lay. She didn't lay this morning either. But she appears to be somewhat okay, not as lethargic.
