I'm just going to go ahead and add this one to my list of dumb questions, but do chickens eat their own feathers?

This morning when I went to let them out of the coop one of the girls was walking around the coop and looked like she was repeatedly banging her head on the floor, like she was having a seizure or something. There was about an inch of what I thought was a twig stuck out of her mouth. When I pulled it out I realized it was a feather - and a great big feather at that. As soon as it was out she went out in the run like it was nothing.

It reminded me of a cat I once had that ate the thread off a bobbin. He apparently just kept licking and swallowing, and by the time I saw him he had the swallowed over two feet of string (and the bobbin was hanging from the side of his mouth). It was a battle to gently tug it all out, but once I was done he just stood up and stalked off like nothing happened.

Weird.
