Hen crowing - loudly!

There are three more window sills, if I block that one. (We have four large windows that are all open now due to the heat - high of 89 today). -thinking on it, though.

Again just thinking out loud here, What about attaching hardware cloth to a frame that's big enough to cover the window and sills, then hinge it on the windows so you can lift it to have access to opening and closing the windows and the hardware cloth would not block out the airflow? Don't know if this will stop her from crowing or not. Just trying to help.

We have hardware cloth (instead of screens) attached to the windows, and framed in around them so that predators/rats cannot get into the coop. The windows let up and down from the inside. There is a ledge/sill on the inside. We may try to do an interior frame, as well. That isn't a bad idea!

Screen material might be cheap to use.

Well, I have an 8-year-old hen that has crowed very intermittently in the past. The past few months, however, she has proceeded to hop into a window sill EVERY morning and crow like a rooster! Has anyone else experienced such a thing??? We are not permitted to have roos, and I am afraid we are going to be reported. -will be interesting to attempt to explain that it is in fact a hen crowing, not a roo. :barnie
I have a pair of Seramas in a cage in my entry. The hen lays eggs almost every other day....and she also will crow! Not every day, but I've caught her crowing, at least a half dozen times....she will join in with her mate, the rooster Bob-a-Louie. They sing together quite often. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get them on video. They quit as soon as they are me. I believe it has something to do with hormones.

I wouldn't bother with trying to stop her from crowing. Unless you live somewhere that doesn't allow you to keep roosters. In that case preventing her from perching on her favorite spot might cut back on the crowing. But if you don't have a rooster....she might just find another place to sing from. Evidently it's not all that unusual for a hen to take over the rooster role....when there is no rooster around.

I seriously doubt keeping her off any window sills will stop the crowing.
Wishing you the Best of cLuck.
