Hen died- Help! **RESULTS ARE BACK**

Let us know what the necropsy shows. I'm sorry for your loss and hope you can prevent others.

FYI - Sulmet is a sulfa drug used for the treatment of Cocci, a protozoa present in all soil which adult chickens normally have built immunities to. It is, for the most part, a chick disease. Signs of cocci would be bloody poop. I do not believe it is Cocci and would stop the Sulmet immediately - it is very hard on their systems and I'm not sure how long you have been giving it to them but it sounds like it has been many days.

Terramycin, the "alternative" recommended by the "experienced chicken raiser" is an antibiotic and would only treat bacterial infections.

HOWEVER, Wazine, is a dewormer and that's what I would have recommended. It is added to their drinking water. Adult birds are more likely to have worms and the green watery droppings could indicate same.

If you have never dewormed your flock, I would recommend Wazine right away.

I am so sorry- from the looks of it, there was nothing you could do.

Wow. Thanks for telling us. So it seems it's not anything contagious? Your rooster must have died from something else? I had a necropsy done on a year old hen who also seemed perfectly healthy and then, boom, she was dead. Turns out she was too fat causing her to have liver problems. Her liver hemoraged and she bled to death internally. Sure was a weight off my mind that she didn't die of something contagious. You must at least be happy about that!

It's possible that they both ate something they shouldn't have. That second article points to mycotoxins as a possible cause of renal failure.
