Hen died out of no where

I'm sorry for your loss :hugs

It would be just speculation on our part - sounds like a reproductive problem complicated with crop issues and possibly Ascites.
The only way to know for sure would be to have a necropsy. Does your vet still have the body so they can do one for you? If not, refrigerate the body and send it to your state lab for testing. They will give you a report of their findings.
Your state lab https://cahfs.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/
I’m going to ship her to Davis Monday. Thanks for your input

I still have her but we don’t have two frigerators and don’t think I can put her in our food fridge.
I’ve always wanted to send my other girls to Davis for examination but I never can fridgerate them. :(

She was 3ish I put her in the fridge and I’m going to send her to Davis for examination on Monday.
Good, I'm glad you made space in your fridge. I was going to suggest you placing the body in a cooler if you had one.
If you live near one of the UC labs, you can probably drop off at just about anytime, call first of course. Otherwise, ship - this thread shows you how - it was written for general info, but Casportpony uses UC labs as well, so she has some info there that you might find useful. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/how-to-send-a-bird-for-a-necropsy-pictures.799747/

I'm very sorry, I know it can be heartbreaking and frustrating to lose one that is special. Getting more information can help.

I’m about 2 hours each way and I can’t commit to that. Sending her first thing Monday.

Thinking- could she have eaten rat poo that maybe a rat ate poison? We have rats that come out at night. But we have all our feeders rat proofed. The ones they need to step on.
Or could a crow have given her something?
I’m just baffled that she was perfect when she roosted.
