she seems much happier now with her rooster, she’s able to run around and do whatever without having to protect kids, i’m caring for the little one so it’s okay & that’s good to know!At a month old and laying eggs again, she's ready to be done raising them. Totally normal. Hens wean their chicks anywhere from 4-8 weeks. That doesn't make her a bad mom, especially if she was good with them to begin with.
i had a previous incident where my big fighting roo attacked one of my cockerels when he was younger, i kept him alive for a month but eventually let go of him since it was likely he was never going to walk or stand on his own. Ever since then i’ve been afraid to let chicks near any of my other roos, i have 4 roos in total and 1 hen, expect i keep the 3 younger roos separated from her and my big roo, even when the 3 are in their cage my big roo will try his best to kill them so unfortunately letting them all roam at the same time is not an option, i incubated those 4 eggs hoping they would be ladies but we got roos :’) and other than that i used to a lot of cats so they didn’t get a chance to go out and roam and they killed the rest of her chicks so i got rid of most of them since they were just cats that lived outside and stayed for food but i’m left with 4 and waiting for the shelters to have space
