Hen Got Attacked From Person Trespassing

It boils the healthy tissue away... No 'good' doctor would suggest peroxide for long term care of a major wound.
As I said...I don't use peroxide & other than specifically to "boil out" dirt or infection I rarely use it on myself or my kids either. That's why I suggested the diluted alcohol solution for the 1st rinse or 2 as it kills germs & bacteria without overly damaging healthy tissue.

At this point, I'd say the discussion should end here since this is turning into a fight & has no purpose on the forum. People use different things for different reasons & YES, there are still doctors who advise an initial rinse with peroxide. So no one is WRONG here, it's merely a difference in practice & procedure.

hope your chic is doing well. I have had a couple of attacks where the hens were in bad shape I am very amazed at how the hens can heal. All's I do is isolate them and clean them every day with betadine I mix it with water so that it looks like dark tea. Just keep her clean. Best of luck.

I do not recommend the dog... I am being sued right now because my dog bit someone who came onto our property unannounced and opened our screen door. ON MY property..OPENED MY DOOR. I did not get fined by animal control..they said I did nothing wrong. It was a workmans comp claim..they are coming after me. Nix on the dog.

You should have filed trespassing on the idiot who walked into your house without permission.
What kind of laws do we have where someone can come and open DeannaOR door and get bit then sue? I am sure the dog was barking. Guy I worked with his Sister had her house broken into jewelry stolen and when they arrested the punk he sued them over a dog bite he got while stealing her stuff! I have been told that putting up no trespassing signs or danger signs can lead to a bigger law suit because you are" acknowledging" a danger on your land. Lawyers are out of con troll in the USA.

At first it was a major wound. I'm going to put up a sign and I'm just going to ask him to replace the cost of the bird since she isn't going to heal to wear she's show quality again I'm sure, she costed $35, plus the cost of all medical supplies I've used.

Is this fair? I'm also going to ask him to cross in a different yard from now on or just where he is never near the chickens if he has to cross in our yard to simply walk the back wall into the other yard or yards.

I would be happy and hopefully he will be to...so not going to court.

I would NOT give him permission to cross on your property at all. He doesn't have any respect for other peoples property it's hard to say what he'll do next. When he does do something hell say you gave him permission to be there. He's already hurt your hen. I like the electric fence idea, just run one strand across the top. Good luck.

I would tell him that your property is private, and that you expect him to respect that. Honey, you keep saying you're not cruel, but what you're doing is setting yourself, your chickens, and anything else on your property up to be hurt by this man. Protecting yourself and yours is not being cruel, it's being smart. He's already proven he's disrespectful of the law, of private property, and of you. Do you really want to find out the hard way that he's also a thief, rapist or murderer? Maybe I'm going over the top here a little bit, but the fact that he KNOWS you called the cops about him trespassing, and HE DID IT AGAIN means he's either high, stupid, a criminal, or all three! When he told me not to the call the cops, I would have pulled out my cell phone, and very clearly and loudly said, "Nine, One, One!" and called.

I follow Pat Colby's natural animal care. I have used 6% peroxide on several very nasty wounds on horses and goats. One where a goat ripped its horn off. When the vet finally turned up he was amazed at how well it was healing. Pat has had over 30 years experience in animal husbandry and she does say that any disinfectant should only be used once to clean the wound, otherwise it will inhibit healing. I have cows, horses, goats, chickens on our 50 acres and have a very extensive first aid box. I can't always get a vet here so my husband & I have to rely on our own instincts and Pat.
P.S I once used peroxide on my ingrown toenail, it certainly didn't burn the skin.
So don't worry you wont harm your little hen by using it!

were do you live where they can sue you for a dog bite on a uninvited person coming on your property.. in Louisiana i have told a sales man if i caught him on my property again my dog would not be as nice as i am, he told me that he would call the cops and i told him do you want me to dial the number because for one you are trespassing for two i bet you don't have a permit to do what your dong and you did not get a call from me asking you to come to my house so i told him i am through talking and my dog will finish this conversation if you do not leave and i guarantee he can get to you before you make it out the drive way, needless to say they don't come around anymore and if you are trespassing in Louisiana and you can prove you felt threaten you can shoot them and not have any charges brought on you.. so i would get a dog because what you have going on i guarantee would not have happen with a dog in the yard..

Sorry about your baby getting hurt by that idiot. I agree with some others, put up a Razor wire or Barbed wire fence for that moron to try & climb on & don't hesitate to press charges on him, sounds like he's high, drunk or simply a moron. He's breaking the law & should be made to stop. Your babies & your safety & property are at risk.
