Hi everyone,

I have a Black Copper Maran named Libby who I purchased as a chick from a breeder in August 2016. She typically lays a few eggs a week, but has not layed since April 4th. She does not appear to be sick, and nothing has changed in their environment. They have fresh water and layer pellets daily, and fresh fruits, greens, and veggies a couple times a week. They go into a run during the afternoon that gets moved daily so they have access to grass. She is not stashing eggs, and doesn’t seem to be broody, though she spends a lot of free time in the coop or laying down outside, which is not her usual behavior. I’m just not sure what is wrong with her... it’s too soon for her to stop laying! Thank you for your help!

Since she’s almost 2 yrs old, did she ever molted yet? She might be starting to molt but slowly. I had a hen that molted very slow and acted sick for 3 months and did not lay. But got over it and turned out to be prettier and active after.

Make sure she has enough light. My girls won't hardly lay without at least 14 hours of intense light per day.

I think she did a soft molt a couple months ago, but every couple days I find a black feather in the coop. Is it possible she is still molting and this is why? Could it be why she is lying down and sleeping a lot?
