Hello everybody,

I had to cull one of my favorite hens a couple days ago because she was so sick and I couldn't stand to see her suffering anymore. I believe she had coccidiosis, I bought the stuff to help treat her but she was no longer eating or drinking and she didn't improve and could no longer walk or stand up. So I put her down unfortunately. Yes, as soon as I saw symptoms of sickness I isolated her from the flock but I think her condition was just too far along. I am wondering what is the best way to prevent coccidiosis in the rest of the flock?

If you think your hen had coccidia, you can treat the whole flock, and clean their coop and pen as well. Usually coccidia is only fatal in young birds, as older birds become resistant to the parasite, so an adult bird that has a bad infestation of coccidia would be likely to have other health issues as well that predispose her to becoming heavily infested.
