Our hen house is nearly complete... I just need to figure out what I want for flooring...it's newly constructed so the floor is currently wood. I like the idea of putting linoleum down like so many of you are. I also wondered about the foam tiles that snap together that are water resistant. I thought maybe with those I could take them out occassionally and hose them off and do a good cleaning. The only thing I'm wondering is whether it has a hard layer on top so they won't pick/peck at it, I would also be covering the tiles with bedding of shredded news/paper and woodchips. So, anyone ever seen these or know how they'd work. Look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your responses! Here is a link to them.....

I use vinyl flooring in my newer coop, covered with a thick layer of Aspen shavings. The edges and corners of the flooring were sealed with bathroom caulk before the shavings went in, as I did not want any cracks or crevices for mites to hide in. I love the vinyl more than any of the wood flooring of my other coops. If you want to strip it to the bare floor to clean, it's so easy! It just wipes clean.

I would worry that anything with cracks or seams would attract lots of grunge over the years - - and provide hidey holes for tiny mites. Just my two cents.

Good luck with your coop, and please let us know how it goes!

The flooring in my coop has a linoleum floor and linoleum going up on the walls a couple of inches. On top of that, I filled their coop with wood shavings bedding. It is extremely easy to clean. All you have to do is scoop out all the old bedding, do a wipe-down of the linoleum, and fill with new bedding.

I used a plywood floor with 3 heavy coats of oil base floor and porch paint. I painted ( well actually I have to give the painting credit to my wife ) the entire coop inside, walls nest boxes and roosts along with pine wood shavings as litter.
