House for rooster

Housing without a nest box is easy - think "oversized rabbit hutch." If you only have one, and you keep him indoors, you can even use one of the cheapie coop-wannabes sold at feed stores and online. They're not sturdy enough for outside, but they work great indoors.

I've kept a bachelor flock for years and they do quite well together. It started out of necessity, because the hens were getting overbred and bullied - but "The Boys" quickly became my favorites! There's nothing as entertaining as watching a handful of roosters playing King-of-the-Hill on a stump. It's not fighting, it's more like having a bunch of feathered frat boys in your back yard. For me, the eye candy is worth the extra effort and feed!
