Hello Back Yard Chicken lovers,

My back yard has been squawking for a hen house since I bought my home in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles last year. I hear the familiar sound of roosters crowing all day long. That sound hearkens me to embrace the country lifestyle raising chickens.

Since I am home most of the time, raising laying hens for eggs seems to be the perfect hobby to obsess over in my early retirement. The peace and quiet of this small community of half-acre homes called Reseda Ranch has been the perfect antidote to the stress of looming filing deadlines and audits in my 35 years as a corporate tax manager.

I haven't started my flock yet. I've been researching chicken coops, hen breeds, and how-to videos online. With each video I am more and more excited about caring for my own modest hen haven.
I'm hoping to meet online locals in my area who can share best resources for breeds, feed, and predator protection in my area. Give a shout out and say Hello.

I totally obsessed over chickens before I finally got some of my own and they've just been the best addition ever! Maybe even therapeutic.
