I got my hen house finished except for wiring in the light. It's barn door red and the wife will paint the edges of the door white to look like one. I put in a drain hole by the perch leg next to the wall. I cut out both end of a small baked bean can and stapled it to the floor and covered it with hardware cloth and the linoleum. Is the top perch to close to the back wall @ 5"?

Nice! But yes, your suspicions are correct: that top roost is just a tad too close to the wall. Tail feathers will get raggedy from brushing against it all night long every night.

Yeah, I believe the recommendation is 12"; mine is more than that, I walk back there. Also, you will have poopy walls....

Well, that means I'll have to take it back out and fix it. While it is out I'll take the other piece of linoleum and staple it to the back wall so as to not have "poopy walls". I plan to put some ripped 2x4 around the left side floor to put the nesting boxes in to keep the birds from kicking them around. Should I elevate the boxes off the floor?

I would recommend that - easier for you to gather eggs, less bending over AND if they are 18 inches or more above the floor, it gives chickens more floor space.

I think I'm just going to leave them on the floor. I plan to have just 4 layers the rest will be soup.

Okay then, I redid the ladder. The bottom rung is 14" off the floor, 12" between each rung and 12" to the wall from the top rung. I placed the boxes where I was/am going to put them. They're 12"wx15"Lx4"d, it looks like 2 birds could fit in one box. If I elevate them to 18" can I mount a feeder under them so I don't waste food outside that could get wet? Do I put water inside and out? I know where the search is and read till I've confused myself, which ain't hard to do. TYVM for ya'lls patience.

Mine don't have water inside since we just switched from shavings to sand inside. I prefer to keep the eater outside, but can move them in if we have a storm or hurricane coming & they would be lcked inside.
