hen house

I keep my food inside to deter wildlife and I have water inside and outside. They drink the water outside a lot more.

Looking GOOD!

What I see that may/may not need done before the girls come home...

Either raise the coop or put hardware wire around the base. At that Height, you may find that eggs get laid under there, and you will have a fun time getting to them. Also, if you raise the coop, it gives you a place to put food and water out of the rain. Also, the girls can go under for shade on hot days.

Paint all exposed wood inside the coop.

Put Hardware cloth around the perimeter of your run.

I am impressed! Most newbies make more mistakes! Good job!

In the last picture you can see the vents up top. They are 7" at the back and taper to flush at the front. I can always add door window later.
I have enough pylwood left to build a nesting box off the floor. It would be 44" wide, so I could fudge a little and get 4 boxes. I could then mount a feeder and waterer to the back wall. What do ya'll think?

Thanks, I've redone my initial plans alot. I do plan to put some patio stones under the feet of the coop. I can only raise it very little, the chainlink is 5' high. I think I'll get another piece of linoleum and do the side walls and the doors instead of painting and will caulk everywhere it needs it.

I already have gound wire zip tied to the base of the pen and used sod staples to hold it down, and have hardware cloth laying in the yard to go around the chainlink.

Really great! Congrats! I agree with raising it a little higher if you can....looks heavy though

I only keep food & water outside the coop due to limited space. I don't want to invite mice and other critters into the coop .We have alot of hawks so I'm really not worried about them outside. I think u just have to evaluate ur own situation. Mine spend very little time in the coop even in winter.
