Update...

Blossom, our SL Wyandotte, is doing really well so far. She even tried to eat the vet tech's hair this morning when we picked her up from the hospital. They said she'd been eating literally all night long. Typical. She's perching nicely and seems in decent spirits.

Lightball, our EE, is not doing as well. She's grumpy and sad and will just sit and nap. They said her leg might need to be amputated and we'll know in the next 48 hours. I can't imagine it but they said she can get along ok as as a one-legged chicken. Um ok. We're medicating the heck out of her with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and such and just waiting and seeing. Healing thoughts/prayers/whatever you believe in are appreciated.

Babette, our RIR, is healthy but totally confused about where all her flock-mates are. Poor girl.

That's it for now. All I can say is giving oral meds to two chickens is not my cup of tea but we'll keep going till they're healthy again.

Thanks for all the encouragement!

Official Update from the vet:

Both chickens look much better. Looking good that our EE will get to keep her leg. If all keeps going well, they will have their stitches out on Monday and be back in the coop that afternoon.

We're not all out of the woods yet but it was all pretty good news today.

Thanks for all the support!

UPDATE

Blossom has been cleared to go back in the yard but has to have her stitches in for more days. If we keep it clean and dry it should be ok.

Lightball not as good news. Her back has healed just fine. She got those stitches out today. Wednesday she has to have another surgery on her leg. Her leg has opened up again and isn't closing well. All we can hope now is that the resurgery allows the skin to cloe or she might lose her leg.

Ugh. Wish I had someone to help me deliver meds to thte birds cause I'm exhausted.

Thanks for your support, it really helps.
