Thank you, everyone, for such a warm welcome
I’m so thankful to have the expertise and knowledge of so many. I’m a school librarian by trade and one of my big loves is research- I hope to share with others what I’ve learned when I can, if I can.
A quick bio:
I live in Graham, Washington and have been a teacher for the past 23 years. Six years ago I got my endoresement and moved into the library. I have a flock of 11 hens (two black Americaunas, one Buff Orpington, one Speckled Sussex, one blue Orpington, one Russian Orloff, one Salmon Faverolles, two Welsummers, one Australorp, and an Easter Egger). The oldest hen, my Speckled Sussex, is close to two. Most of the others are approaching a year old. They free range on one and a quarter acre and spend the day eating bugs and lounging under two different bamboo stands in our backyard- not a bad life. They get a daily treat of blueberries and watermelon. Not too much, but enough that they look forward to it every afternoon. I have 2 Omlet Eglu coops in a 16x30 converted greenhouse indoor run. I’ve tried to diligently head off issues by studying Backyard Chickens since July when I got my first hens. I’m very excited to join the throng of chicken lovers!
